‘Where Are We?’ Wednesday – Climbing The Walls

I was going to make this one of my “Those Crazy Danes” posts but, as it’s a dull, dreary Wednesday (in addition to being Hump Day) here in Copenhagen, I thought we should have a little bit of fun. Ready for another little Danish photo quiz? Are you sitting comfortably? Then we’ll begin…

Here’s DS10 – already at the top – and DD8 climbing right up behind him. She’s wearing her pink ski suit. I took the picture about 10 days ago when we still had zero temperatures. Today, joy of joys, we’re going to reach 7 degrees (45f)! 🙂 But, as usual, I digress…

So where are we? Any guesses? Just so as you don’t cheat and look at the bottom of this post, here are a few gratuitous pics while you ponder. My favourite film….

And tulips I bought when it was DH’s birthday back in January…

OK, back to the quiz. You’ve had enough time, can you guess where we are? Give in?

It’s our local library. Which has book shelves that you are allowed to lie on (DS10) or sit on (DD8)…

Or climb and crawl on. From one end of the library to the other. Don’t forget to remove your boots! This is another picture of DD8. In her Carnival outfit, a dalmation dog 😉

Does your library look like this? It’s a pretty weird idea but is certainly popular with the younger customers 🙂

It’s also a ‘help yourself’ library. When you have a pile of books, DVDs, jigsaws and Wii games that you would like to borrow (for free), you go up to the computer station and plonk the whole pile on a pad. None of that old-fashioned scanning items one by one… And before you can say’ “Bob’s your uncle”, the machine is printing out your slip. When the time comes to return your booty, the library send you an e-mail and, if you like, you can renew the whole lot online. There is no set upper limit on the number of items you can borrow. And the Danes borrow a lot. I’ve often seen people with 30+ books. They even come prepared with a backpack.

When the world around us is changing, whether it’s computer technology, health reform or the bookshelves at the library, embrace the change. Don’t look back! 😉

Have a wonderful Wednesday! 🙂

‘Where are we?’ Wednesday

It’s Wednesday and therefore ‘Hump Day’. So I thought we should have a little photo fun…just to keep us all going until tomorrow, ‘Little Friday’ 🙂

Shot at a secret location in Copenhagen. A public building.  A bank?  Museum of Modern Art?  The local council offices?  Local courthouse?  Hmmm, where are we?

No need to send your answers on the back of a postcard. The solution is right here, at the bottom of this post… Just be careful you don’t crick your neck.

Hope you have a wonderful, wondering Wednesday! 🙂

Fingers on the buzzers!

My sweetie best friend H held a girly birthday dinner bash last night. After the first course, she unwrapped her gifts one by one – as is the way in Denmark. [Note to non-Danes: when you go to any type of party, whether in a private home or function hall, there is an assigned ‘gift table’ called et gavebord where you place your parcel!]

After the main course, as has become our little tradition, we had a quiz. (I always make up a song/speech for the birthday girl or a quiz.) I don’t know about you but I’ve always loved quizzes. Which I fear goes hand in hand with the fact that (as I like to believe…) I’m always right! And, though not be terribly ambitious, I am fiendishly competitive! 😉

Here’s the quiz I made for H’s birthday dinner yesterday. It’s a short, personal one and took me about half an hour to put together. I put in a few trick answers and even her sister didn’t get all the answers right – ha! 😉

Feel free to use the idea for your next get together. Just remember to take plenty of paper and pens with you! 🙂

  1. What was the name of H’s first pony (or first pet)? [multiple choice answer]
  2. Where did H meet her husband? [multiple choice answer]
  3. Last year H and I ran a 5k race in Copenhagen, which one? [multiple choice answer]
  4. H has lived in various European cities. Where has she NOT lived? [multiple choice answer]
  5. What is the name of H’s Dad? And H’s Mum’s dog?!
  6. H has her birthday in February. In which months were her two daughters born?
  7. H has had several jobs. Including what? [multiple choice answer]
  8. What is H’s favourite type of chocolate? Milk, dark or white?
  9. If you looked in H’s handbag right now, which brand of lipstick would you find? [multiple choice answer]
  10. H is a party-smoker. What brand? [multiple choice answer]

Hope you have an intriguing Saturday! 🙂
