Mini Cruise from Copenhagen to Oslo with my Bestie, Sue!

Do you prefer a big holiday, or are you happiest with a short getaway that gives you a quick recharge? This past week I pressed pause on my regular routines and enjoyed a mini cruise to Oslo from Wednesday to Friday with my Bestie, Sue. It was just the recharge we needed and we had fabulous sunny weather!

The Go Nordic ship leaves from Nordhavn harbour at 4.30pm and cruises overnight, arriving in Oslo at 10am. There is a choice of restaurants, cafés and bars on board and we dined at the buffet, had cocktails in the bar and took part in a music quiz and bingo. We also brought our own snacks and drinks to enjoy on board plus, of course, I had packed Rummikub!

Our first stop in Oslo this year was the Kok sauna club where we shared the sauna experience with some other travellers from America and Scotland. Beautiful weather for dipping in the harbour, with fabulous views of the Opera House!

Then we walked around the harbour to the Munch museum and took the elevator up to the 13th floor for a champagne lunch!

After lunch it was time to stretch our legs again. So we wandered along Karl Johans Gate, the shopping area, stopping to buy some Freia chocolate hearts (yum!) and had a coffee in the sun.

Then it was time to say goodbye to Oslo, heading back on board at 4pm, just in time to settle in for our 4.30pm sailing back to Copenhagen. A lovely calm crossing and we were back in Copenhagen by 10am.

I came home relaxed and happy, reminded once again that small adventures with good friends make the best memories! (Some of you may remember that we did this same cruise last year. This year our small cabin with a view cost 500 Danish kroner, terrific value for two nights for two people, if you don’t mind a squeeze!)

Sunset view over the water from a ship's window, with a distant shoreline silhouetted against the sky.

Have you ever taken a mini break? Where did you go? It’s such a fun and easy way to feel like you’ve really been away!

Hugs

That sounds like a perfect break. Both of you look rested and refreshed! I’m taking my first mini break in November to visit some friends.

Funny you ask! My two adult daughters and I left Denver Colorado on a Wednesday afternoon and flew to London. We checked into our amazing hotel, had a lovely tea in the late afternoon and rode The Eye that evening. The next morning we met our fabulous Guide and toured inside Buckingham Palace, watched The Royal Guard Inspection, toured Westminster Abbey and had a lovely lunch at The Ivy. The following day we vidited the Tower of London and Saint Paul’s Cathedral and then headed to Selfridge’s to look for Jelly Cats! On Sunday morning, we headed back to Heathrow and flew home arriving in the early afternoon in Denver. It was a lot to pack into a small time, but we had a wonderful trip with a lot of good memories!

Once a month, I go out for a long distance walk with a good friend. We walk most of the time 15-20 km. It is so nice to be away from home. The Netherlands is a small but beautiful country. Is is great to discover it by walk. You can see so much more!

This looks wonderful. Tomorrow my bestie visits me and we do a very mini break at my home! First fire of the year will go on. Snacks and movies will be on!

Meeting my friend in Melbourne for a long weekend together in a couple of weeks. Lots of chit chat, shopping and crochet planned.

We’ve just had two nights back at the town we had just moved from two months ago! We went back for our friend’s wedding. I had been craving a mini break away as I ususally need a couple each year and have’nt had the chance to get away for 18months! Moving to a seaside town two months ago feels like I’m on permanant holiday now which has been amazing, but the wedding weekend away with all our family has been just what we’ve all needed so badly for sooooo long! Finally for us a bit of joy, human connectivity & celebrating in the stressed out pressure of this modern encroaching digital age is THE BEST medicine anyone can get nowadays I believe!!!! 😀 Woohoo! Finally feeling recharged too, Diane?!!

What a fabulous trip! You and Sue both looked very relaxed. Great idea for just a few days break and you fitted a lot in as well 😁

My hubby and I went on a mini trip this week. We went to Madison, the Wisconsin state capitol, from Milwaukee, the largest city in the state. Originally going for one night for a concert. Added a night so we’d have more of a get away. We ate at funky restaurants, ( Chinese hand-pulled noodles in the middle of the USA), went thrifting, saw a movie plus the concert we’d planned on. I felt very happy.

Happy for you! This looks so nice. I am planming a “breathing space for one’s soul” course in a nearby monastery together with a friend. It will be in December, a break before Christmas.

I love that you two arrive in Oslo and immediately head off to take a sea dip and a sauna! What a healthy mindset and boon for your spirit. Cheers!

A couple of weeks ago we went to visit my niece and family in Minnesota. We flew from Virginia. The trip was 5 days. They have a lovely new house on a good sized lake. Rain and cold ruined some plans, but we still had a good time.

We just returned from Copenhagen on 9/10 – took the overnight ferry from Oslo to Copenhagen. It was a wonderful experience in many respects. We got a Commodore room. Food, service, accommodation, & more so worthwhile.
Restful & enlightened trip. ps. Love both Oslo & Copenhagen!!!

Taking a short trip at the end of October with another couple to Undarra lava tubes, far North Queensland only about 3.45 hours drive away staying in railway carriages looking forward to it as I’ve always wanted to go it’s only taken us about 25 years to get there !
