Happy Tuesday from Copenhagen! How do you feel about cleaning the bedroom—do you love making it cozy and hygge, or is it the room you tend to ignore until the clutter piles up?

This week we’re in Flylady Zone 4: the master bedroom. The place where we start and finish every day deserves a little extra love! Don’t worry—we’re not aiming for perfection and we are not doing marathon cleaning sessions. Just set your timer for 5–10 minutes and do a little bit at a time. And as usual I have some quick and easy ideas for you!

Three quick bedroom tasks (Flylady Zone 4)
- Clear off your night table Remove the clutter (tea mugs, snotty hankies, random items) wipe it down and stand back and admire your efforts!
- Vacuum under the bed. What’s hiding below? Out of sight shouldn’t mean out of mind!
- Declutter the “clothes chair.” You know the one—it’s really just a pile of procrastination! Take a minute and make a decision. If the item can be worn again (I usually wear items several times before washing), hang it up to air. If it’s dirty, pop it straight in the washing basket.

If you want to do more, check my Flylady Zone 4 Bedroom Checklist. And if you’d like company while you work, my body doubling cleaning videos are always there—you don’t have to do it alone!

Three self-care ideas in the bedroom
- Change the bedding. Nothing beats sliding into crisp, clean sheets – one of my simple joys!
- “Shop your house” and redecorate the room with items borrowed from other places in the house like a vase, candlestick, throw pillows, soft rug or lamp.
- Play with your wardrobe. Try out new outfit combinations and actually wear them this week—it’s fun, inspiring and gives your clothes a new lease of life!
Self-care is not selfish. A tidy bedroom and a few small pampering moments really help you rest and recharge! Yesterday I had a lovely sea dip with my Danish Besties, Vibeke and Helene, then we biked straight to the cinema to see Downtown Abbey. (There’s a real nip in the air now – time to wear warmer layers and gloves!) My heart is full this morning!

What’s one little thing you’ll do in your bedroom this week—for cleaning or for yourself? Leave a comment, I’d love to hear!

And if you’d like some extra motivation while you work, don’t forget my body doubling videos are always there—we can clean and declutter together in real time. Rah, rah, rah!
And last, but not least, I uploaded a new video yesterday all about how I went from messy to minimalist over the past 15 years, simply by doing small daily declutters. It’s living proof that tiny steps really do add up! Have a brilliant day!
Hugs

Add Yours →Thanks, Diane. I really enjoy reading your blogs. I’ve been a long-time YouTube subscriber of yours but am trying to get myself not to go on so often and only watch things that add value and joy to my life. You are one of those! Thanks for all you do. My husband is going through some health issues which may not get any better and I feel overwhelmed but your tips for just doing a few minutes a day are helping. Hugs.

I cleaned the glass louvers in our walk in wardrobe when the rain comes it hits those windows so much so I’ll see how long they stay clean lol
It’s starting to get chilly at night in London so this week’s major task is to swap out the summer duvet 4.5 tog fr the autumn/spring duvet 10.5 tog 🛌
So sorry to hear you have health issues. I have smouldering myeloma – bone marrow cancer – but pre treatment. It can be a worry but I still try to find joy everyday. Off to meet a friend now for lunch. Take care ❤️
Vivienne, I have MM, diagnosed 11 years ago. My primary issue is having ongoing fatigue. That’s why I visit our cheerful Diane! She inspires me to take on 15 minutes of activity and feel better about myself.
Thanks Diane, in my bedroom I’m going to rearrange some of my furniture. I love to do that sometimes. It’s lovely to have a change. Lovely photos of you and your friends ❤️
Dear Diane, I’ve been following you for 7 years, and every time the madness of everydays life overwhelms me, I follow your advices: One foot in front of the other, baby steps, progress instead of perfection. Deeply grateful for all your beloved support 😉 A hughe RA RA RA for YOU!!! Best wishes from Switzerland, Agnes
I’m clothes-swapping in the bedroom closet this week, removing summer items and bringing in warmer wear. I also organized my workout clothes into neat and accessible open bins to make going for a walk or to the gym more likely. Go me! 💪🏼
Thanks Diane! I’m just starting to get in to all of this. Our house required some repairs and when we get back in, I am really looking forward to cleaning and decluttering in ways that you’ve shared. Thanks again.

I swapped the curtains between our bedroom and the guest room for a no spend redecoration!
Good morning from sunny Southern California. This morning I’m washing my bedding. Oh it will feel so fresh tonite when the evening cools down. Stopping by the library today to pick up, return and just have a wander around. 👏🏻
I got a clothing rack, on purpose, for my lounge wear to hang when I leave for the day, so I do not have ‘that’ chair, or pile on the floor. It’s one from Ikea that looks like a tree branch and is hung on the wall. I feel like it’s a game changer for me.
Wow, I wish we could pull out our coats and scarves! It’s still pretty hot in the Midwestern US. Hope you enjoyed Downton Abbey!
Love it. I have way way too many clothes items so decluttering as I go! I am also in school and had to pick a country to write about in terms of food and culture and healthcare and I chose Denmark. So fun to learn all the things!
Thank you ever so much for your inspiration. Who knows, maybe in 10 years, I might be able to call myself a minimalist as well. Crazier things have happened 🙂 all the very best to you.
Thank you Diane. I appreciate you adding a video or two as I’m definitely a visual learner and tend to do a declutter whilst watching and listening to you. I really look forward to new videos although totally appreciate the time it takes to process them. Hope that you’re getting professional support whilst coping with your health issues as here in the UK that can be a challenge.
Dear Diane, thank you for your videos and messages. I like the blog a lot. I follow you and the flylady system for two years now. You helped me through difficult times with one teenage daughter struggling badly with Long Covid. It helps to go step by step, to have a nice and clean home, to make time for friends and self care. Thank you for support.
We still have 90degree days in East Texas with the promise of cooler weather. I brought out my fall/winter clothing out to declutter and determine what can go to consignment shop. Have a blessed week and may your health challenges be manageable. 🤗
