On my blog today! Use the good china – even on a Wednesday! And we’ve got a wee visitor staying with us right now. Here’s a little hygge reminder…
What do you drink your morning coffee or tea from? Do you use a favourite mug? A chipped, old promotional mug from the back of the cupboard? Hands up if you have a habit of saving the “nice things” for later! Stop me if you’ve heard this one before but here’s a little nudge for today: every day is a special occasion!

We’ve got a wee visitor staying with us right now – our kid’s rescue cat, Kiko. He was abandoned at birth and adopted from the Copenhagen Cat Rescue when he was just a few months old. He’s almost 2 years old now and it’s so hyggeligt having him here for a few days!

This morning Kiko had a little cat milk served in one of our wedding china bowls from Villeroy & Boch (we got married 27 years ago and I still love the Madeleine pattern)! Because, why not? Life’s too short not to enjoy the good stuff. If you need a quiet moment today, here’s a little video of Kiko enjoying his treat from fine china. Three, two one and relax…
Kiko also loves to be brushed…

If you fancy a little boost or want to feel inspired while you put the kettle on for that cuppa, here’s a Youtube playlist I think you’ll enjoy, with snippets from my life in Denmark and more hygge ideas
In other news, my Morning Routine is done and I’m ready for whatever the day has in store for me, woo hoo!

A simple daily routine gives us a gentle rhythm to the day – a little structure that helps us feel calmer, in control and ready to enjoy the moments in between! Want my help with getting organized, click here for that!

So here’s your reminder to light a candle, wear Granny’s heirloom brooch, use your “fancy” perfume or send a quick “thinking of you” note or text message to a friend. Don’t wait to celebrate the everyday – it all counts! And let me know what it’s going to be in a comment so we can inspire one another!

Hugs

Add Yours →Hello Diane from a breezy Isle of Lewis!
You’ve inspired me to get my Gran’s wedding china out of the loft (by which I mean I’ll be sending my husband up to get it later 😉) It’s high time I started enjoying it!
Wonderful! Make sure to hold the ladder steady for hubby and reward him with a nice cuppa! 👋😁🫖☕️
Kiko is going to want more sleepovers at Granny’s 😻 I’ve been using some perfumes I’ve hung on to for years because they are sentimental and no longer in production- I would be sad if they went bad and i didn’t get to enjoy them. Also, I have (had) two tinted moisturizers I put on each morning- one is from Clinique- I use it only when I’m going out and not every day and the other is a cheap brand I don’t really like it, leaves my skin greasy but I use it every day when I’m not going anywhere special because… well, i didn’t want to waste the better one. I have bought multiple of these when I run out even though it’s not my favorite. However, I just finished the last one and I’m not buying it again and just using the one I like every day. Every day is a special day – I don’t want to die while having a greasy face! I owe myself that at least 😆
Exactly, you deserve to feel your best! Say Hi to S! 😍🦆🦆🦆
Thank you for the reminder that every day is a special occasion. 💛
So lovely to see a cat lapping from a beautiful bowl. Did you know cats with an “M” on their head are descendants of the cat in the barn where Jesus was born and they are blessed by Mary. They bring that blessing into your home, so yeah, very huggee. I am so glad I found you and get your emails. I have been a fan of fly lady for a long time, but it was never this much fun before. Thank you for your “rah rah”. And wow…chocolate for breakfast. How bad can that be?
Love that!!!
You taught me this many years ago and I still think about this often and tell others. Thank you! A great life lesson! Use the good china! I like to do watercolor and my art teacher says the same thing but says “use the good paper!” Don’t save the good stuff – everyday is to be celebrated!
We had been using dishes that we bought at IKEA for many years, but right from the get go, they were getting marked up by our silverware. Last year, I decided that I was tired of using them and got out the ‘china’ we got when we were first married (almost 33 years ago). It’s not super fancy but that’s why we picked it in the first place. Dishwasher and microwave safe, too! The only thing that I don’t have are bowls to match but I’m on the lookout for some that will go with. There’s no time like the present to just use your stuff! Kiko is a beautiful cat btw! Enjoy your time together.
My mother-in-law gave us our china and I was not one to really use china. So we used it for our everyday dishes and yes our cat enjoyed many meals from the china bowls and saucers. Our coffee/teacups held the candles we used around the house. It’s still lovely to see them being used.
What a great idea and perfect timing for me! My kids are all back in my country for a visit and I’ve been wanting to have a formal family dinner with our china, but our weekends are very busy. However, everyone is home tonight, and I even have my mother’s silverware since we’ve cleared her house and sold it. Tonight we’ll celebrate with simple food and fancy plates. 🙂
A lovely break on a day with a case of the blahs! Thank you 😊.
Oh my goodness, that kittys face ❤️ adorable.
A few years ago I put my best dinner set into the cupboard with the everyday set, It was only being used at Christmas, now I use it more often and enjoy its beauty.
Hi Diane, thanks to you I use special mugs to drink my coffee Or tea! Such a small but great idea. Thnx
You’ve inspired me as always Diane. I’ve been off work sick with the flu but after catching up on your videos and newsletter I used small lots of time to declutter things over the course of a week. I’ve cleaned out just one drawer at a time, or one container at a time and only for a few minutes at a time. The progress I’ve made is fantastic considering how little energy I had. It also made my bedroom a much nicer place to convalescent in. Thanks for the inspiration.

Yesterday, my brother came for lunch. We celebrated his 87th birthday with the good china! I made your cheese muffins to go with the meal. They were a hit!
How wonderful, Pat!
Love the kitty.🩵
