Oh thank you dear Diane. This comes at just the right time. I have been dreading the coming months (my precious mother passed away at the end of December last year) and need to get a handle on how to navigate these days with peace and joy. Have already been holding on to the idea of greatly simplifying what I do as hostess. So blessed that the immediate and extended family are so wonderful. We’re all working together to support each other through this season. And your videos and ideas are very helpful and calming (and just plain fun!). Sorry for the long comment — it just poured out this morning πŸ™‚

My sister died in January so we are also doing this. I’m scaling back on everything and just concentrating on the food and having more family experiences.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Sarah. May your season be blessed as you make joyful memories and remember your dear sister.

Starting my gift list today. Just found out I have to have a surgery the first of November which will limit my mobility for 4 months. So, gotta get my shopping done in the next two weeks. We may not have full decorations, and there may be more cash or gift certificates this year, but we will be together! And, that’s really all that matters to me.

Love this ❀️
I’m going to write a short list of gift ideas for me; my birthday is just before Christmas and I’m always stuck when the family ask me.
I love your diary that has space for notes on the opposite page, so practical. I’m hoping they do them in England x

Thanks for the ideas. I am doing a declutter of some of my sewing items and creating a basic sewing kit for my daughters as a Christmas gift! I have double of so many sewing items and I know my girls could use a few basics for repairs and simple fixes. I will thrift the remaining items for the kit.

I am well ahead of the game with my gifts already. I decided very early in the year to thrift many of them and have really enjoyed seeking out some items to make up gift baskets. I am making a dessert basket which includes beautiful desert dishes and cream soup baskets with lovely cream soup bowls for example. I also give a lot of baking as gifts and look for thrifted containers. I am really looking forward to the season and to giving these gifts.

Good timing. I like to make gifts so I started a few months ago, but I still need to do some planning.
One thing I did a few years ago that saves me a lot of time and money, is that I made re-usable drawstring bags in various sizes to wrap gifts for family that open at our house. I have seen these for sale as well. It’s very eco-friendly since we use them year after year. I use twine or small ribbon to tie on a name tag.

Hi Diane,
I found you on YouTube by accident 6 months or so ago and want to say thank you for all your cheerful encouragement and good sense. Also it is lovely to hear a fellow Edinburgh accent online.
I am sure your encouragement and advice helps lots of people in different stages of their lives. As a recently (sort of) retired person I found myself getting a bit obsessive and carried away with cleaning and de-cluttering – for the first time in my life there was no excuse for me to have a messy house! However your sensible tips and advice have encouraged me to adopt a simple effective routine which leaves me free to get on doing other things content in the knowledge that everything is good enough and that anything else that needs done will be dealt with another day!
Thanks and keep up your good work!
Carol

I need help. How do I print it just like it is off of your webpage. It won’t download or come up as a printableπŸ˜³πŸ˜”

Diane, thank you so much for the reminder to look at my holiday gift wrapping supplies! When I took inventory, I realized I needed hanging gift tags with ribbon ties as well as more white tissue paper and adhesive bows. I went on the Hallmark website here in the US and discovered they were having a Buy One/Get One Free holiday promotion good for only a few more days! Synchroniicity!

My daughter is having a major foot and ankle surgery November 20th. She will be unable to walk for 6-8 weeks. This is going to be so helpful for me to get everything done by her surgery date! Thank you Diane, you are always an uplifting inspiration!

I always find the prospect of discussing gifts (or no gifts) with others so challenging, especially my in-laws. I’m an only child and expecting my first baby this year so after talking with my parents we won’t be doing gifts with each other to keep it all simple. My in-laws are harder (husband has two siblings) so navigating those conversations is hard. Anyone relate?

My in-laws are the same. They get lots of gifts for the kiddos, most of which get returned and the kids use the store credit to pick out something they enjoy. And they still get gifts for husband and myself even though we’ve said no thank you. Since I know they are going to get something regardless of our wishes I try to steer them into the direction of something useful and what the kids enjoy. For example this year I asked for some new kitchen towels and mixing bowls, husband can use some dress shirts, and the kids are into hot wheels and they could use some new gloves.
They also expect gifts from us but don’t give ideas. So I keep it within the budget and try for something useful or consumable like a new scarf or fancy chapstick and lotion.

Hi Diane,
Do I have to put in my email address to have access to the printables? I am not sure if I’m missing something but I don’t know to access or get them. Thanks.
