Cozy Bathroom Reset for Dark Autumn Days: Flylady Zone 3

Good morning from Copenhagen where the days are getting short! Sun up at 7.40 am and darkness falls at 6.15 pm – yikes! And it’s been super chilly for our morning sea dips (scroll down to see photos at the bottom of this post). But this is also the perfect time to make your bathroom a little oasis of warmth and calm, woo hoo! Yes, you guessed it, this week we’re tidying and cleaning Flylady Zone 3: the bathroom. So let’s jump straight in!

A cozy bathroom scene featuring a wooden tray with a heart-shaped candle holder emitting a warm glow, a small pink rubber duck, and a potted plant, next to a stylish metallic faucet adorned with fairy lights.
Enjoy a bubble bath!

Three quick bathroom tasks

  • Wipe down the taps and sink area. A quick polish with a rag makes the whole space sparkle! (I keep a bottle of generic cleaning spray, a bottle of glass spray and some rags in the bathroom cabinet – always ready!)
  • Tidy one shelf or drawer. Group your daily items together and remove anything you never use. Small tweaks make mornings smoother. (I recently bought a dry shampoo that I don’t like, so today I said goodbye and put it straight into my bag for our next Swap Party. One of my friends might enjoy it.)
  • Check your bathroom supplies. Replace any empty bottles or expired products, and make a note of what to restock on your next Errand Day. Are you running low on hand soap or toilet paper? (I’ve added Batiste Dry Shampoo to my list, that’s the brand that I always come back to!)
A collection of various indoor plants, including a tall peace lily in a woven basket, a small succulent, and a monstera in a pink pot, arranged on a textured mat in a bathroom setting.

And let’s remember to keep it cozy and look after ourselves this week. Wellbeing, self-care, self-preservation, pamper time…whatever you like to call it. If you don’t look after you, you won’t have energy to take care of the house or anyone else! So here are three speedy, easy, no-cost ideas for you. All bathroom-related, ha ha!

Three cozy self-care ideas for autumn

  • Place a small plant or flower on the windowsill or counter—just a tiny touch of green makes it feel like a spa. (I use fake plants in the bathroom: they don’t die on me, always look fresh and are easy to clean!)
  • Take five minutes for a mini break. Put on some of your favourite music, rub a bit of body lotion into your shoulders, neck and hands. Breathe deeply for a few minutes, and let yourself just be.
  • Take a hot shower or bath and add a seasonal scent. A few drops of cinnamon, orange, or eucalyptus essential oil will make the whole room feel like a spa. (I’m going to use orange and vanilla this week.)
A hand holding a small bottle of essential oil labeled 'Appelsinolie' with a rubber duck and a plant in the background, set in a bathroom.

If you want to do more cleaning and decluttering, choose an extra idea from my Flylady Zone 3 Bathroom Checklist. But don’t go overboard!

A checklist for cleaning, restocking, decluttering, and seasonal projects specific to the bathroom.

And if you’d like a bit of company while you clean, join me in one of my body-doubling videos—we can tackle it together in real time. (Just a warning: I’m rather chatty, ha ha!)

As promised, I’ll leave you with a few photos from Monday’s chilly skinny seadip with Helene.

We had the most glorious sunshine but it was very cold (we are wearing gloves and scarves for the bike ride there now). But as long as we have hot tea and sunshine as glorious as this, we are good!

Even a quick bathroom tidy and five minutes of pampering can make a chilly day feel brighter. Take care of yourself this week—you deserve it! Let me know in the comments ONE THING you will do today. Start there and let’s get the ball rolling!

Hugs

We moved to a new house last week so a little organising like hanging up the mirrors in the bathrooms and even purchasing a new plug for a bath is a good idea right now that will make lots of difference

Thank you for these blog posts! I have a hip repair surgery on 11/4. 2 years ago I did the other side but I’m not getting any younger as someone reminded me 🤪 I just turned 38! I’m going to try and do something that me post surgery will find very kind in each zone. As well as a deep cleaning task I can then ignore. I scrubbed the minerals off the claw foot tub basin bottom yesterday. Had maybe been a year 😮‍💨 last week I did a good scrub on the toilet upstairs so doing downstairs this week. And I’m going to group all my things in the easiest spot in the cupboard and bump kid stuff to the lower / back so I can reach without bending over much that first 2 weeks.

I took a shower this morning with a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil dropped in the corner of the shower… Far away from any danger of being slipped on. It did feel beautifully like a spa. I do need to start moisturizing now that the dryer and colder weather is coming in… Thank you for the inspiration, Diane!

I’ve been wanting to take a hot bath all week but the bathroom is less than inviting. I have overstock of tp rolls on top of the dryer to put away, the vanity needs decluttering, the tub needs cleaning and the floor has pet hair.

Today is the day, you’ve inspired me!

I will also switch out a few seasonal decor items on the shelf and add a candle. Days are definitely getting shorter in Canada too!

I’ll be getting a Covid vaccine today and attending a luxurious dinner at a department store sponsored by an upscale cosmeti company. They do the best events! Plus I love their products!

Oh I forgot! Before all that I’m going to tackle the bathroom linen closet. It’s a mess! I bet it won’t take more than 20 min and I’ve put it off all summer. Can’t find a thing in there right now!

Getting rid of expired nail polish and love the idea of lotion on my shoulders and neck! Thanks for all you do!

I’m going to read a chapter or two in my book today for my self-care. I love that you give frugal tips for everything. Free and frugal are things that I really enjoy!!! Lol!!

I’ve been using cedar oil in the shower since I read that it is closest to the Japanese habit of “foresting,” Which Involves going out into the forest and relaxing while breathing in the forest’s scents.

I’ve been doing a bit of work on my balcony. The weather is warming up so I’ve rearranged my outdoor furniture and planted some new plants in my pots. I’ll be able to take my coffee and sit in my swing seat and in the evening enjoy a glass of wine 😁🥂
