Another Birthday Bash – Family Dinner in the city!

On the blog today…my birthday celebrations continue! This time with a lovely family dinner (hubby, me and our two grown kids) at Ambra, a buzzing Italian spot on Store Kongensgade, just a short walk from Marmorkirken (the Marble Church) metro station.

It was one of those perfect Copenhagen summer evenings – sunny, warm, and ideal for meeting up in the city. As usual, we all arrived on bikes and by public transport – I never use the car in the city – it’s so nice to get around so easily and not have to find a parking space, especially in the summer heat!

It was actually quite difficult to get a booking at the time we wanted. Ambra is popular for a reason – there’s a very lively atmosphere. A long bar as you enter leads you into the main seating area.

We were seated in the main room with a great view of the open kitchen, which added an extra bit of theatre to the evening.

We opted for the Tasting Menu, Sappori di Ambra (450 DKK, and everyone at the table has to go for it), which delivered 8 courses.

The starters came out fast and furious – my favourite was the courgette fries.

The two pasta mains, while tasty, were a little underwhelming presentation-wise. Very bland looking compared to the starters.

Dessert was a smooth pannacotta with fresh raspberries. Have I mentioned before that my favourite fruit is raspberries? Only in part due to my obsession with the movie, Thoroughly Modern Millie – raaaaaaaspberries, ha ha!

The only downside was that the pace felt a bit rushed towards the end – they clearly needed the table for the next round of diners. But we were actually quite happy to get back outside into the fresh evening air. All in all, a lovely evening with hubby and our kids!

Birthday dinner with my Danish besties, Vibeke and Helene, also happened recently – that one was social dining in my favourite part of the city, the canals at Christianshavn… Stay tuned for that!
