A Calm Evening Reset: Cozy Halloween Edition!

A black lantern with a smiling pumpkin face cutout, revealing a warm light within, beside an orange candle flickering softly.

Good evening from Copenhagen! The nights are drawing in (dark by 5pm!) and my shiny sink is looking extra festive with a little Halloween uhygge (the opposite of hygge). Spooky candles, a cozy orange glow, and a fun teatowel (bought on a trip to Tokyo many years ago). Helps to make me smile while I tidy up!

A white kitchen towel and a festive Halloween-themed tea towel hang on a rack, with a cozy ambiance from dim lighting and a small candle in the background.

If you’re struggling to get your Morning or Evening Routine done, this is your gentle nudge: just start. You don’t have to want to do it, you just have to get it done!

A checklist for a good morning routine, including tasks like starting laundry, having breakfast, and checking the calendar.
Checklist for a good evening routine with tasks such as making dinner, wiping the table, checking the calendar, and preparing for tomorrow.

Light a candle, put on some of your favourite tunes and do the basics—shine your sink, set out your clothes, prep for tomorrow. A few small actions make all the difference!

A kitchen sink with a polished stainless steel finish, featuring a festive Halloween-themed tea towel hanging on the side. A candle and a carved pumpkin with a smiling face are placed on the countertop, adding a cozy and spooky atmosphere to the scene.

And remember, the goal isn’t perfection—it’s peace. Once those little tasks are done, you can enjoy your evening guilt-free. I finish my Routine as soon as we’ve finished eating dinner. No excuses!

If you’d like some extra motivation, see my video: “Stop Wasting Evenings” where I show how to make your routine feel cozy and rewarding instead of a chore. You can watch it here…

Have a fantastic evening and remember… tomorrow always goes smoother when you take five minutes tonight! Do you need an extra hand to do the dishes?

I love the warm orange glow and the seasonal scents this time of year. I even love the early evening so I can enjoy my candles. But nooooo scary stuff for me! Eeek!

Very funny, need an extra hand….
I agree; washing as you go, taking an extra 5 minutes. I always want to walk into a clean kitchen each morning!
Can I ask where you found your sink caddy? I have a very similar sink design and I love how everything is conveniently settled in one place.
I hope to visit Copenhagen next year, it sounds lovely and inviting!

This is the money quote for me:

“The goal is not perfection—it’s peace.”

Yes! I’m going to write that in bold red ink and tape it to the counter near my sink. A great reminder to find joy and meaning in each moment. Thanks, Zen Philosopher Diane! 🧘🏻‍♀️
