Good afternoon from Copenhagen! I’ve got a little surprise coming your way on YouTube tomorrow. Any guesses? Scroll to the end of the post for more info! But first, a quick bonjour after my little break last week. Hubby and I escaped the stormy autumn Danish weather for a few days of fun and sun in beautiful Nice, the South of France (a favourite old haunt of ours – we both speak French fluently so it feels like coming home) and it was just what we needed! Apologies for the photo and video overload in this post but if you enjoy blue skies, café dining, cocktails on the beach at sunset and delicious French food, then settle in for the voyage – ha ha!

No post from me would be complete without a photo where I’m swimming, ha ha! The Mediterranean sea on the French Riviera is clear and azure blue… I swam every day and the temp was 22c/71f. By comparison, our sea temp here in Copenhagen is currently 13c/55f so it felt very warm to me! It’s a pebble beach so I wear my little bathing shoes to make it easier to get in and out.

One of my favourite things in Nice is enjoying an apéritif at one of the beach clubs. Rühl is my favourite. I LOVE the blue and white striped umbrellas and the blue and white striped t-shirts of the waiters! G+T at sunset…

We quite literally walked into a French street fight — well, technically, a duel! We were visiting the beautiful Villa Masséna Museum and Art Gallery and were delighted to stumble upon their Imperial Days festival that weekend. Free entry for the event! Such a treat if you’re interested in military history, Napoleon, or elegant crinoline-clad dancers twirling to classical music!

We had a really quirky dinner in Nice Old Town, hidden amongst the maze of tiny streets, at a restaurant called “The Taste”. It’s right on a corner and is actually an antiques/brocante shop! Really special atmosphere to be sitting amongst all the different oddities of furniture, silver cutlery, paintings, curios and crystal glass. We loved the food – such a special experience!

We walked to the top of Nice to see the waterfalls and stunning views of the bay. Then back down the other side for lunch at the port and a walk around the market. It was a nice touch that the freshly grated parmesan for my fresh mushroom ravioli came in a tiny Bonne Maman jam jar!

One of my favourite things about Nice is knowing that it is almost always going to be sunny (around 300 days per year)! Here’s the view from our apartment, first thing in the morning, as we opened the shutters…
And then there were our daily walks along the Promenade des Anglais, browsing in French bookshops (hubby bought a few books, he reads mostly in French right now), al fresco lunches and cozy dinners…

I will miss the crazy sights and sounds from the Promenade des Anglais in the evenings!
It felt so good to slow down, recharge and simply enjoy life for a few days. And, of course, hubby and I played Rummikub sitting on our balcony – something we always play on vacation!

So now I’m back home, full of energy and inspiration, ready to dive into our routines and bring a little extra comfort and fun into the season ahead! So I’ve got a little surprise coming your way on YouTube tomorrow. A new series to bring us all a bit more hygge as we head into the next months. Can you guess what it is?
Have a brilliant day and see you tomorrow!
Hugs

How lovely it has been to ‘visit ‘ Nice with you Diane.
My late sister lived in the South of France , and it brought back so many happy memories ….arriving at the airport before driving to her lovely home , admiring the agapanthus growing in the central reservations , visiting the flower market ….then shopping for my brother in laws favourite olives ……I had no idea there were so many different sorts of olives before I saw that stall 😂, enjoying all the market goodies , textiles, soap, cheeses, fruit and veggies , leather goods , baskets, scarves…..the list goes on !
I’m so glad that you had a wonderful time , and hope that it cheered you up….I know you find Autumn difficult .

It looks like you’ve had a lovely trip, Diane. One of the things I enjoy most about being a bit older, is being able to take time away when it isn’t school holiday time.
