Flylady Zone 1! Simple Ideas to Clean, Tidy and Declutter (Plus a morning sea dip)

Happy Tuesday from Copenhagen where it was a little misty this morning! A quick sea dip with my Besties always gives me a boost…just like doing a few minutes of decluttering and cleaning at home!

A woman with short hair in a white blazer and striped shirt poses for a selfie with another woman wearing sunglasses and a denim jacket, by a waterfront with rocks and cloudy sky in the background.

This week we’re in Flylady Zone 1 – the entryway, hall, and dining room for detailed cleaning and decluttering. These are the first areas we see when we walk in the door, so even the tiniest bit of attention here makes a big difference to how our homes feel! What small task can you cross off your list today, do you need a little inspiration?

A cozy dining room featuring a wooden table with a centerpiece of candles, a decorative item, and a small plant, surrounded by red chairs against a yellow wall. A warm light emanates from a lamp, with a glimpse of a door and bookshelves in the background.

Here are 3 small tasks you can try in Flylady Zone 1 this week:

  • Clear off and wipe down the hall table or sideboard (are there piles of post, keys, or random bits n’ bobs lying around?).
  • Shake out the entryway rug or give it a quick vacuum – makes a huge difference in just a minute!
  • Declutter FIVE things from your dining room or hall cupboard – less visual clutter, more cozy calm.

And if you’d like a bit of company while you tackle Flylady Zone 1, come “body double” with me in my declutter and clean YouTube video series.

Set your timer for 5 or 10 minutes, pick one task, and know that I will be cheering you on! We are making things better in a few minutes!

A list of cleaning and decluttering tasks for Zone 1, which includes the entryway, hall, and dining room, presented in a clear and organized manner.

Oh, and on the subject of decluttering, my hubby has been decluttering his books. A miracle, ha ha! (If you have followed me for a while, you will know that he LOVES books!)

A cardboard box filled with various books sits on a wooden table, with lit candles and decorative greenery in the background.

Did you catch yesterday’s declutter video? We were chatting about decluttering for a clearer mind and I gave you 5 areas to work on this week. Books and crafts being one of them!

I asked hubby if he had any books he could part with since I’m heading to a Swap Party later this week. Lo and behold, just five minutes later, he’d filled an entire box with donations! Woo hoo – my friends are going to be thrilled! Any books you recognise or want to read?

And if you want to know more about our Swap Parties, that’s the subject of my session at Get Organized this year! “Declutter without Guilt: Host a Swap Party”.

Back back to this week… Just like our misty morning dip gave me a fresh start today, even a few minutes in Zone 1 can make your home feel refreshed and cozy. Don’t forget to tell me in the comments which small task you’re doing today (bonus points if it’s in Zone 1!) or what you are doing for self-care. Meanwhile, take a few moments to relax and just breathe…

Hugs

Washed the entryway mats over the weekend (washed the floor, too), decluttered one cabinet, and dropped off donations (that had been waiting in the dining room) this morning. Already the house and its owner are breathing more easily. Thank you, Diane! ☺️

Loads of boxes of costumes in my hall all going to my studio for my next show – and returns going back – so that will make the entrance look so much better

Thank you for the inspiration as always x

Good morning from PNW😊.
Basking in my backyard with cup of cherry coffee…part of your helpful ideas of self care. Thank you!

I’m going to declutter a draw (or maybe two draws if time permits) from the dining room cupboard today after vacuuming the enterance hall. I’m also going to refresh my nail polish whilst waiting for a face mask i’ll apply as part of self care! It’s been so long since I’ve done a face mask!

Took a brisk walk just before sunset after working indoors all day, beautiful evening!
I worked in my entryways this week for zone work, dusting/cleaning with a damp cloth, touch up paint. Made a nice difference:)

Good morning Diane 😊 I’ll be wiping down and clearing the launch pad in our hall today, ready for back to school tomorrow 🎒 Thanks for the inspiration as always ✨ Have a brilliant day 🩷

Cool weather has finally arrived, and my little birds have flown from their nest above my front entry door. Today I WILL give my front entryway a good clean outside!

I am declutterring my entrance table and my china cabinet! Did the coat closet yesterday which was in desperate need with the changing of the seasons and the kids going back to school. Thanks for the blog and ideas!
