Book Chat & Self-care Motivation: Flylady Anti-Procrastination Day

When do you usually find time to read – in the morning with a cuppa, last thing before bed (that would be me!) or perhaps it only happens when you’re on vacation? Reading is one of my favourite forms of self-care (see these videos for easy self-care prompts) – it helps me get out of my own head, especially when I feel things are heavy. This morning I was down at the sea for a dip with my Besties before starting work, and I took my library book along so I could enjoy a chapter afterwards. I’m a big fan of Niels Krause-Kjær’s novels – political thrillers set here in Denmark, always with a dash of sharp, satirical social commentary. (I know Niels personally and he’s every bit as nice and funny as his writing!) A couple of his books have even been made into movies, and some of his novels are available in English if you fancy giving them a try…

It didn’t take much time. Just a few minutes enjoying the calm, along with a cup of coffee from my thermos.

I also “read” audiobooks while doing my routines or just to keep myself entertained while cleaning and decluttering. I get all my audiobooks through our Danish library using the Libby reading app – so nice to always have my audiobooks with me! Right now, I’m listening to Sue Minix (I’ve read several books in this cozy crime series before).

And I’ve just finished this one by Linda Corbett. Not my usual type of book (I’m not a fan of romantic novels or movies, cozy crimes are my go-to) but it was a nice, fluffy audiobook and quick “read”!

What’s your self-care moment going to be today? A bike ride in the fresh air sets me up for the day!

Bicycles parked along a waterfront with a view of the sea, a pier, and a Danish flag waving in the breeze under a bright sun.

And since it’s Flylady Wednesday – Anti-procrastination day – this is your gentle nudge to tackle one thing you’ve been putting off. Doesn’t need to be big or scary! Pay a bill, clear out one kitchen drawer (I always tidy/wipe out one fridge drawer) or make that pesky phone call… you’ll feel so much lighter once it’s done!

A schedule featuring daily focus ideas with sticky notes for each day of the week, including tasks like 'Upkeep Clean,' 'Plan and Play,' 'Anti-Procrastination tasks,' and 'Family fun/rest + recharge.'

Speaking of which, if you haven’t yet signed up for your free ticket to Get Organized HQ 2025, why not do it today using my link? I’m one of the speakers again this year!

But back to the books…what are you reading right now and when (or where) do you read?

Have a wonderful day!

I love all types of genres. I am currently ready Shari Lapena. I do like a crime drama and LOVE Chris Carter books – all of them!

As it’s still school hols i read any time that I have but usually it is before I go to sleep (in the week) although at weekends I read in the morning when I don’t have to be rushing around.

Happy Reading!

Hi from Oklahoma, USA. I like historical fiction, rom coms, beach reads and occasionally mysteries. I also use Libby. I mostly listen to audiobooks, but I read my Kindle at bedtime. I read 1 to 2 audiobooks a week, but it takes longer to get through the Kindle book.
What Would Jane Do looks good, but it’s not available to me via Libby yet. I was able to request a notification when it becomes available.

Hi Diane, as I am a working mother reading is a hobby that I can always enjoy. It doesn’t require a baby sitter or long planning or extra equipment. I mostly read before bed. But as the children get older and I have more flexible working hours, I would like to do some reading in the morning before work. I haven’t yet quite figured out how best to do it, but that’s what I want to look into in the new school year (back to school is my personal new year). At the moment I’m reading a book by Simone de Beauvoir. hugs, G

Diane, I’m reading the latest Maggie Hope novel by Susan Elia MacNeal. The stories began with Maggie, trained in Maths and Physics, serving as Winston Churchill’s private secretary at the onset of World War II. By this novel, Maggie has advanced to a proper intelligence agent with the SOE. All the books are great “gal hero” reads to enjoy when you need a bit of go-get-‘em inspiration. Many cameos by famous people, including Coco Chanel in The Last Hope. I read with a cuppa any chance I can. Cheers!

I have been an avid reader since childhood. It is my go to for everything. for 32 years i was a school/children’s librarian and loved every minute of it. In retirement it is cozy mysteries for the most part. Historical fiction is also a favorite and I still read some children’s books, mostly childhood favorites.

I do most of my reading in the evening, but sometimes reward myself with a reading session earlier in the day. I have to be really disciplined about how much time I allow, or I can easily “one more chapter” myself into oblivion! Currently reading I am John Titor by Niamh Arthur and Sean Platt.

Oh, I absolutely love the Libby App! I’m reading Kristen Kish’s autobiography now alongside a silly cozy, Fall-themed mystery called Apple Cider Slaying by Julie Ann Lindsey. Oh and I am intentionally, slowing reading Margaret Renkle’s Comfort of Crows along with the seasons. The prose is poetic, as she shares about the nature that surrounds her organized by each week in each season. Reading it aloud, alongside the corresponding week of the year has opened my eyes to the natural world around me. Thanks, Diane, for your shining, joyful light and inspiration.

Oh, I loved Julie Ann Lindsey’s Christmas cozy mysteries! Apple Cider Slaying isn’t available in our Libby yet but I’ve bookmarked it! 👋😃

Currently “audio-reading” Philip Yancey’s, Where the Light Fell.
Listening to a book seems to move me along whenever I am doing a task or routine. Time flies with a good book.

I just finished The Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz. I recently retired and am so thankful to have a chance to read more! Thanks for the suggestions to put on my list!

I don’t have a set reading time, I use whatever pockets of time I can find. I mostly choose literary fiction, and I also like cozy crime. Really enjoy the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny, set in Canada.

I’m really enjoying your blog! I’m a long-time fan of your youtube channel. The blog/website renaissance is great.

I am a big fan of the Louise Penny cozy crimes. I was advised to start with the first book in the series since each later one may make references to a former novel.
I read in the evening while my husband watches sports and works on the computer.

Since my back surgery I’ve been struggling to read as I like to read before going to sleep. So it’s taking me a long time to read a book !

Thanks for the inspiration and reminder about anti procrastination Wednesday I’ve taken a small step towards a project that I have been dreading. I’ve just finished reading ’Unpolished Gem’ by Alice Pung, her memoir about her Inochinese family’s migration to Melbourne. Fascinating and a great escape from the everyday 😊

I love a cozy mystery. But I’ve been (re)listening to Flyladys chaos cure on audible this month. For anti procrastination day I took out the trash I as waiting for someone else to notice. Meh. It happens. : )

I’m currently reading “Finding Grace” by Loretta Rothschild. I LOVE to read in bed at night. It helps calm my busy mind.

I just love getting your updates, I enjoy your energy and zest for life.
I’ve just finished Magpie Murders, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I chose it from one of your recommendations, thank you.

Hi Diane,
I’m reading the Inspector Ryan novels by L J Ross, they’re set in the beautiful north east of England with names like Cragside, High Force, Holy Island, all places I remember from my childhood.

I’m extremely proud of my niece who realised her dream of being an author. Her 4th book has just been released so I am currently reading that. The books are for middle grade children but I still love them!
“The Starlight Rebel” by Lisette Auton ❤️
