Traditions by the season: Danish carnival!

Happy Thursday! Do you celebrate Carnival in your part of the world? If you have Danish heritage you are probably getting ready for Fastelavn! This Sunday is Danish Carnival: celebrated seven weeks before Easter Sunday and, for small kids, it’s the highlight of the year (aside from Christmas). We eat delicous buns filled with cream, kids wear fancy dress and there are many celebrations and quirky traditions. Here’s an old video of mine where you can see what we eat, learn how to make a simple fastelavnsris for your children and, last but not least, hear me singing in Danish! You might want to turn down the volume for that part…

Here’s the lyrics to the Fastleavn song if you want to sing along!

Fastelavn er mit navn,
boller vil jeg have,
hvis jeg ingen boller får,
så laver jeg ballade.

Boller op, boller ned,
boller i min mave,
hvis jeg ingen boller får,
så laver jeg ballade.

Want to know more about Denmark or “travel” along with me? I have tons of videos about the Danish art of hygge, tours of Denmark and other places I’ve visited right here… Have a wonderful day and keep singing!

Denmark, the art of hygge and world travel!

LLAP! Hugs!
