My Danish Christmas Advent Calendar – 2 December

Welcome to my My Danish Christmas Advent Calendar!  Join me every day in opening a new door.  I’ve got a host of goodies to share with you – traditional Danish Christmas recipes, traditions, songs, games, decorations, crafts and landscapes…   So sit back, relax and enjoy!

2 DECEMBER

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s Advent Candle (et kalenderlys), we have…um, more candles!  Yep, those crazy Danes just can’t get enough of their candles.  And, really, who can blame them?  In the month of December it’s dark in these parts from about 3.30pm.  And doesn’t get light until about 8am.  So any kind of light is welcome!  Today – Sunday 2 December – it’s the first Sunday of Advent.  So we light the first candle – of four – in our Advent decoration.

My DD10 (dear daughter, aged 10) put this together for us: four candles, some old Ikea baubles, the numbers 1 to 4 (number 3 broke when she was trying to put it into the candle, so we taped it together and just laid it on the decoration…very rustic!), some fir cones and greenery from the garden.  Not bad and didn’t cost a penny! [typed the canny Scot]

2 December and the first advent candle of four is lit…

And guess what happened today, the figurative icing on the Christmas cake?  It snowed, yay!

First Sunday of Advent…with snow!

Don’t forget to check back here tomorrow when we open the next door.  And I promise – no more candles!
