Christmas Planning – 18 October 2009 – Family Advent Calendar

Hooray! Just read an e-mail from the Flylady and her “Cruising for the Holidays” (planning for Christmas) starts tomorrow, Monday 19 October…

If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know that today I’m baking my Xmas cake! See my earlier post 🙂

Today I’m also wrapping the presents I’ve bought so far and working on an ‘Advent Calendar’ of things for our family to do in December. So that we can build up to Christmas in style and enjoy doing all the things that make it Christmas for us. Some of them are school events, some are crafts, some are simple pleasures. If you want more inspiration, Krista has a really nice ’25 Days of Christmas’ on her blog.

Here are the ideas I’ve come up with so far. The kids are giving me their own

ideas too.

  • make bird feeders
  • breakfast/make Xmas decorations at DKs school
  • evening Christmas party at Scouts
  • make decorations from pinecones, chesnuts etc
  • decorate outside Xmas tree with our ‘natural’ decorations and tiny apples
  • hang Xmas lights in garden
  • eat ‘risengrød’ for dinner (Danish rice pudding)
  • post Christmas cards
  • bake ‘æbleskiver’ (traditional Danish Xmas donuts)
  • drink hot chocolate with lots of cream, marshmallows and cinammon
  • go and see Santa in one of the shops in town
  • make table decorations with greenery from the garden/clay/candles
  • take a drive to see the houses in Amager, decorated with tons of lights
  • watch a Christmas film and make popcorn garlands
  • read Christmas stories
  • visit Tivoli Gardens
  • make sausage rolls, eat with ketchup and sing Christmas carols

If you’ve got some other great ideas, just holler! 🙂

And for more Christmas capers, go have a look at what Candace, Krista and Pippa are doing…

  1. Just put our cake in the oven! Turtle & I both gave the batter a stir & made wishes – pretty sure DD was wishing she could stir some more 🙂

  2. Hi C! Hope they come true! 😉 Funny how stirring a cake is addictive to kids… I've added some pics to the 11 October post 🙂
