Flylady Kitchen Reset: Simple Cleaning and Self-Care in Zone 2

Happy Monday from a secret location, ha ha! No video from me today because hubby has whisked me away on a little romantic getaway to lift our spirits after a few crazy weeks. But as soon as I’m back home, I’ll be straight into my routines (and back on YouTube, of course!). In the meantime, I didn’t want to leave you without a little motivation for the week ahead…

A blue suitcase with a combination lock and a red luggage tag featuring the Danish flag, placed on a gray carpet.

We’re in Flylady Zone 2: the kitchen—the heart of the home. Let’s give it a bit of extra love with some small, simple resets that will make your week run more smoothly! We’re not aiming for perfection here—set your timer for 5–10 minutes and see what you can do! Need some fast ideas? Here they come!

Three quick kitchen tasks (Flylady Zone 2 Reset)

  • Check your pantry and fridge. Take a quick inventory and use up what you have—especially anything nearing its “use by” date. It’s a simple way to save money and reduce food waste.
  • Declutter one gadget or utensil. Do you really need three spatulas or that fancy chopper you never use? Let go of the extras and keep only the tools you love and use.
  • Wipe down cabinet doors or drawers. Greasy fingerprints disappear in just a few minutes and your kitchen instantly feels fresher, woo hoo!

Three self-care ideas in the kitchen

  • Make yourself a nourishing drink or try a new brand of tea or hot chocolate. A pot of tea, hot lemon water, or even a fancy coffee—pause and enjoy the moment. Aaaaah!
  • Cook a comfort food or do a spot of baking. Something that makes you feel cared for. As the days get shorter, I love soups, my Mum’s beef stew made in the Instant Pot and my warm, easy peasy, overnight homemade breadrolls!
  • Light a candle while you cook or clean. Go Danish! Candles are so very simple but an essential part of our Danish hygge! They transform the atmosphere instantly and make the kitchen so cozy. We light them at breakfast too.

If you want to do more, check my Flylady Zone 2 Kitchen Checklist.

And if you’d like company while you work, my body-doubling cleaning videos are always there—you don’t have to do it alone!

I’m off to drink a cocktail, ha ha! What’s one little thing you’ll do in your kitchen this week, for cleaning or to treat yourself? You can leave a comment right below!

Ooh! Enjoy your romantic getaway! Can’t wait for your YouTube visit next week. My cabinets are murky (need repainting) so they will get a good-enough scrub. I bought a pretty wax LED candle to put in a bowl with some seasonal nuts, fruits, greenery (inspired by you!).

I thought we were in zone 1 this week since we did zone 5 last week. Do you just skip zone 1 every now and then to fit into the month? Thanks!

Enjoy that trip I am glad you have a getaway. Thanks for the kitchen inspiration. I plan to attack that fridge.

Oh, sounds like so much fun! You enjoy your time together! And thank you for the kitchen ideas. This has been a sad and challenging year in my family and it’s very helpful to re-up my routines and FlyLady zone work. You help me to be thankful for my life and to look forward to the future. Appreciate you, Diane-not-in-Denmark! 🙂

Have a wonderful getaway! For zone 2 I looked through my pantry and made a list of baking ingredients I need to rebuy in preparation for holiday baking.

Enjoy a well deserved break, especially if it involves a cocktail! 🍸
Cleaned out the fridge today
and tomorrow its cupboard fronts x

I was part of an all day declutter over the weekend and got mugs out of the cabinet, and started some good kitchen / zone 2 mojo to carry me through the week.

I hope you have a fantastic time! How exciting, a whisk a way! I decluttered my pantry room. It has needed it for a while. Tomorrow I will start finishing up zone work in the kitchen.

Your trip sounds lovely! I will clean off my cabinet doors below my sink since I just noticed something spilled on them. I will also do some baking.

Hi! Your trip does sound fabulous! I finally decluttered the top shelf (upper cabinet) to create new homes for Rx refills and supplements. Those mail-delivered Rx refills used to be stored in the deep, middle towel drawer.
Diane, thank you.

Have an amazing time! Thanks for giving me so much inspiration, I love checking in and am enjoying looking at the blog instead of social media. May something wonderful and exciting happen on your trip :).

after moving my mom to assisted living over the last 6 weeks, we are now relaxing in our second home in Florida (our future full time home). It was tough and included delivering items to various family members in other states.
Enjoy your trip.

Have a fantastic time on your romantic getaway! And thanks for the hints on what to tackle in the kitchen.
