We’re Headed Into the Bedroom! FlyLady Zone 4 Cleaning Routine

Good morning from sunny Copenhagen – a new week on the horizon! It’s time to make our homes feel more peaceful and cozy, and this week we’re working in FlyLady Zone 4: the master bedroom. If your bedroom has become a drop zone for laundry or clutter, don’t worry—we’re going to get it back to calm and comfy, one small step at a time. Let’s go!

What Is FlyLady Zone 4?

In the FlyLady Cleaning System, Zone 4 is the master bedroom (and often includes the master bathroom or closet). Each week, we focus on a different area of the home so we don’t get overwhelmed. Small, consistent efforts keep things tidy and under control…

Bedroom Cleaning Tasks: 15 Minutes or Less

Here are a few quick wins you can tackle in FlyLady Zone 4:

Quick Decluttering Tasks:

  • Clear your bedside table—remove old papers, water glasses, or empty coffee cups.
  • Do a “floordrobe” sweep—pick up clothes and either hang or toss them in the laundry basket.
  • Declutter one drawer or shelf (just one – we are not getting overwhelmed!).
  • Remove anything that doesn’t belong in the bedroom—library books, kids toys, empty boxes, etc.

Light Cleaning Tasks:

  • Dust your bedside table, chest of drawers, lamps.
  • Shine mirrors and picture frames.
  • Vacuum or sweep under the bed (the only thing under my bed is my slippers).
  • Change sheets and pillowcases or swap over the blankets for a fresh feel.

Even five minutes is better than zero. We can do this!

Daily Habits for an Organized Bedroom

Let’s keep the momentum going all week long with simple daily habits:

  • I make the bed first thing—it instantly makes the room feel tidy.
  • Put away your LOL (load of laundry, ha ha!) as soon as it’s clean
  • Do a 2-minute reset before bed—fold throw blankets, straighten pillows, and tidy the room.
  • Keep a small basket by your bed to keep all your essential items together, removes the “visual” clutter

Add some hygge to your space

…and last but not least! Your bedroom isn’t just for sleeping—it’s your haven. Especially when things get busy during the summer. Let’s make it feel special! Creating an inviting space helps reduce stress and brings joy to your daily routine.

  • Light a candle (safely!) or use a relaxing essential oil diffuser.
  • “Shop your house” and switch over a plant from another room, or cut a bloom from your garden!
  • Use a lovely linen spray on your sheets (I mix my own, water with a few drops of lavender and freesia essential oils, in an old perfume bottle)
  • Add a soft blanket or decorative pillow just for you!
