Okay, where are we today? Forgive me, but I just love guessing games – it’s my competitive streak! π
Why the school library, of course… Yes, it seems like the whole of Denmark has gone football crazy and even the kids’ school is ready for the 2010 World Cup which kicks off today. Specially themed food at the After School Club, live coverage of matches on the giant screen in the Auditorium (the front rows are reserved for the kids, the adults will have to stand at the back!), football-themed projects and, of course, lots of fun outside on the football pitches.
I don’t know about you but I love the World Cup. Not because I’m much of a football fan. (Thank goodness I’m married to a Dane though because, honestly, how many times have Scotland ever actually qualified?!) I just love all the fun and games that go hand-in-hand with it, all the excitment, all the parties. We’re also ready here at home with (a selection of) silly hats, facepaint (tee-hee, we’re so lucky that it’s just red and white) and, of course, that essential Danish accessory – the Danish flag. This particular one plays the Danish national anthem.
What do you mean, you don’t know the Danish National Anthem, ‘Der er et yndigt land’? Well, lucky for you, there’s a version of it on youtube complete with lyrics so you can sing along!
And when the Danish Dynamite (that’s the team) stand there on the pitch, the Danish roligans (the fans, the opposite of hooligans, rolig = calm) are in the stands singing their hearts out, I too shall be standing in front of the telly, wiping a ‘Mum’ tear from my eye. Gud Bevare Danmark! (God Bless Denmark!) Here’s to lots of goals? π
Have a fantastic footie Friday! π
PS: If you want to decorate you’re home Danish style, go make some Danish garlands!
GO DENMARK! π
Well, JoAnna, they DID score a goal in their first match…just a shame it was an OWN goal! Oopsie!
