Three times Lucia! Besties, Bluetits and Kayak…

It wouldn’t be Christmas without… A Lucia Procession on 13 December. And this year I attended three – with my Besties, with my Bluetits peeps and the Copenhagen Kayak event! Let’s go!

First up, Lucia on the bathing bridge with my Danish Besties, Helene and Vibeke. One of our favourite yearly traditions…

And, of course, breakfast afterwards. Yum!

13 December fell on a Saturday this year which called for a Lucia Procession with my Copenhagen Bluetits Chill Swimmers peeps.

It’s the first year we’ve done this as a group. Lots of fun on the bathing bridge!

And, of course, more yummy food to warm up after our sea dip afterwards!

I made the Mincemeat cake…

And finally Lucia Kayak on the afternoon of 13 December at 5pm. Quite a spectacle! Over 400 decorated kayaks in the canals, with thousands and thousands of spectators lining the streets. I watched it with our kids, a truly magical experience!

We watched from the Circle Bridge (opposite the Royal Library on the other side of the canal) and had a bird’s eye view.

So pretty to see the kayaks moving through our beautiful city.

Do you have any special processions in your corner of the world at this time of year?

Hugs

How delightful! Thank you for sharing these lovely traditions and sights with us. I’ll have one of those mince pies and the cake from the tin, please. 😋🎄✨

That’s such a beautiful nordic tradition! 🕯🌟 I was in Copenhagen last week and enjoyed the Kayak Procession from the bridge in Christianshavn so much!!! 😍💖🎊 I love the traditional Santa Lucia songs and listening to you all singing along is so sweet! 🥰

Love, Love, Love!!! Glaedelig Jul !!

My daughter would dress up as St Lucia and deliver hot chocolate and buns.
Have a wonderful Holiday Season!

Wonderful!
Watching the Lucia Kayak procession gave me goosebumps!
I really enjoyed seeing the three of you singing together, and then with the lovely Bluetits ladies too.
Although I have no idea what the lyrics mean ( about to Google it 😄), it’s such a lovely gentle sounding tune.
Haven’t been feeling particularly festive up until now, but seeing your joyful adventures has definitely cheered me up.😍🎄
Thanks for sharing Diane.💕

Thanks for sharing Diane. It’s lovely to see your traditions. The kayaks on the canal was amazing and Vibeke and Helene and the Bluetits singing Santa Lucia was great. They are all such great sports ❤️

Lovely! Interesting to see what other cultures do and how similar at the same time.
We have a lot of Christmas parades. There are the ones that start the season on Thanksgiving day. Then there are the ones put on by small towns. Out Virginia town, population 1,000, had their parade last Saturday. Our Florida town. Population 25,000, had a boat parade a couple of weeks ago.

I loved the videos about Christmas and Saint Lucia! We have some Norwegian in our family and the older relatives would tell us about the processions. I enjoy your videos and comments so much! Thanks for ‘inviting’ us.

How fun to see your Saint Lucia ‘parades’! Nothing like that here where I live in Alberta. The only processionals we have are all the people driving to the malls to get their shopping done and then getting stuck in traffic!😆🇨🇦
