What does your laundry routine look like right now? Happy 1st August! The Flylady habit for this month is all about getting a handle on our laundry. Are you a “one LOL a day” person (LOL = load of laundry, ha ha!) or is “save-it-all-up-and-do-ALL-THE-LOADS” more your kind of thing? I spotted this sign for sale in the charity shop which made me smile. Just recently my friend Sue and I were laughing about getting phone calls about laundry from our grown kids!
When our kids still lived at home, we did one load of laundry a day, often two. Bedding, sports kit, swimming towels, work shirts, there was a lot going in our baskets! Now that it’s just me and hubby, I do one small stage of laundry every single day (that could be putting in a load, folding yesterday’s load, ironing shirts, mending small holes, putting laundry away). I had tried waiting until I had enough laundry to do a full load with all the steps but kept I forgetting (post-menopausal mush brain) because there was no set routine. So, in my case, doing one part of my laundry routine every single day works best. I never forget, I’m on autopilot as soon as I get up in the morning. And it takes no more than 5-10 minutes daily! However you do laundry, the key is to make it work for you. That will depend on family members, your stage of life, electricity and water costs, your energy levels, your access to machines. Here’s a short video on how I’ve simplified our laundry system over the years — nothing fancy, just practical, real-life routines. Simplify, work smarter!
And while we’re on the topic…we’ve just come back from a family trip to Croatia (my blogpost with lots of lovely photos from Split is here). I’m always charmed by laundry hanging from balconies – one of my favourite things to spot on holiday! Real life on display – I love it!
We don’t have a tumble dryer and I line dry everything (in the garden, weather permitting, otherwise inside), so I always feel an affinity when I see other people’s laundry!
I only wish we had as much sun and heat here in Copenhagen…my LOLs would be dry in minutes, ha ha!
When I was hanging out our own laundry at the apartment in Split, I would spot the local cat having a nap on top of the sheds below! Cute kitty!
Are you doing a LOL today? What’s your best laundry tip? Let’s simplify!
